Under UK law, buyers in England and Wales can get a partial refund or full repair up to six years after the purchase was made (five years from discovery in Scotland). The refund should take into account how much use the customer has already had of a product. This also applies to services.

This is from the retailer so it is up to them to sort out a more reasonable contribution from Volvo.

You might have claim if it was 'not of a satisfactory quality', 'not fit for purpose', or doesn't match the sellers description.

I suggest that trying to use these will be extremely difficult for an item that is subject to the stresses placed on a car radiator and will almost certainly cost more than the £250 that the OP has to pay after the Volvo contribution and this voluntary contribution would also be seen as significant compensation for the failure.

But of course the OP can take your suggestion and dispute the contribution, all the time waiting for the car to be repaired or he can accept that parts will always fail, accept the offer, get the car repaired and retain a positive relationship with the dealer.

I know which course I would choose.

I am old enough to have cracked an egg into the cooling system, to seal a radiator leak.
Have these days gone?

An egg may well fix a lot of EGR problems.

I'm thinking Radweld as mine appears to have sprung a leak on my 2012 V60.
I'll fix mine myself though, I just hope it's not a bumper off job as I remember refitting was a pain when I swapped bumpers.

It's not even as if you've neglected to do anything maintenance wise. It should just last.
I wouldn't be surprised if the coolant has been brown for quite a while . It should always be a bright blue/green colour , brown = ferric oxide , Rust ..

The OP's car is only 3 years old and main dealer maintained so you'd hope that wasn't the case.

Was in the same position with our last XC60, i.e. leaking rad just out of warranty. Ray Chapmans got me a 60/40 deal from Volvo which I accepted.

A radiator that only lasts 3 years has to be 'not of satisfactory quality' and 'not fit for purpose' I would have thought. Volvo radiators have always lasted decades in previous cars they've made.

If that's the case, you'd hope it will be spotted by the technician during routine maintenance.
The OP has full dealer history.
