Recon Brake Calipers
Hi all,
These people do a great job at reconditioning brake calipers: http://www.brake-eng.com/ I have just had 2 calipers done by them. They are de-greased, shot-blasted, zinc dipped and pressure tested. New pistons, seals and dust covers. All for less than a rebuild kit. No brainer and no reason to get dirt under my nails nor burst into tears because you can't get the dust covers to stay on. I've used their calipers before on modern cars and they are great value and good quality. Luckily for me, I'm doing some work in their factory right now and got this done at a rate!

What is their normal charge for reconditioning 1800E front brake calipers, including carriage & VAT?

Brake calipers
I phoned them today and was told that they do not deal with private individuals, and that you have to go through a motor factor,so I guess that I'll be doing them myself.

probably as 2-way transport costs are more than the factory processing.
Pick-ups from shops while doing the rounds much cheaper. dont worry about it, take to shop who will sort it for you. Local shops wont exist if you dont use them, then youll be moaning. Ive used them before too. Refurb existing or exchange if they have a set done on the shelf. Items look and peform like new. Much safer than diy dicking about

Any idea of shops on the South Coast ( prefably nr pompey) that overhaul brake calipers to the same standard as the company Adam mentioned?
My view if they are stripping, refurbing AND validating for what appears a small cost over the refurb kit then its worthwhile. Im not aware of any though Russ |

They do only deal with trade customers.
recon calipers are not silly expensive but will always be a better job than DIY, I would never bother just replacing the seals and pistons without having the caliper properly tested |

Oh that's disappointing. I'll email my man to find out where you can take calipers to get them reconditioned by them and get back to you.
All the best, Adam

any motor factor should be agents for one of the refurb firms, or even all of them.
