Default Volvo Amazon Estate exhaust fitting help

Hello all. I am struggling to get the axle pipe to secure into the front silencer. The clamp is a bit old so I'm going to buy a new one and see if that works. Am I missing anything though? Is there a knack to it. I've tightened up the old clamp as tight as I can and it secures it for a while but after a drive it's back to the axle pipe moving around freely from side to side. It's a stainless steel system so I'm not sure whether the clamp isn't up to the job or the pipes diameter are too dissimilar.
Strange one.
Thanks in advance.
Joe

Are there any slots in the female joint? Usually 2 slots 180 degree apart about 1 inch long, make sure the slots are at 90 degree to the clamping direction of the ubolt so the full clamping force is applied

It’s not always needed but if the fit is a little loose getting the clamp aligned gives you best chance.
