S40, C30, or S80 D5 Torque?
I'm interested in mainly the S40 D5 2006 onward, I want the manual version but it appears the S40 is the only one running 260torque instead of 300 like the C30/S80? Now I know the geartronics run this to save the transmission, but why is the manual S40 running 260, does it have weak components compared to the C30/S80?
The reason I ask is I may consider remapping and I want to know it can take it? Cheers guys, oh, and hi by the way! Last edited by ManicMonkey; Nov 3rd, 2010 at 10:39. |

should be the same... I've seen figures for it running 295lb-ft of torque in the S40.
S40 and C30 pretty much the same mechanically! I'd double check. As for mods - Remap and possibly FMIC, not much of a tuning community for them after that. |

?
Cheers T5, yeah at first I was under the impression that the C30 and S40 were the same for the most part. But if you check a few spec sites, they always seem to mark 260, now I don't know if that's because most S40's ran Geartronic til not that long ago? Or is it to do with the limited cooling in the S40 I hear about................I'm confused? :s

SiRS2000, you sure that isn't nm not lbs torque? As isn't 260lbs about 320nm?

But I have now dug out my owners manual and this is what is staighted in the V50 owners manual. Page 262 Engine Specs. D5 engine model D5244T8 output hp 180 Torque NM 350 D5 engine model D5244T13 output hp 180 Torque NM 400 Page 272 D5 engine model D5244T8 Gearbox Automatic D5 engine model D5244T13 Gearbox Manual 6 Speed I can only conclude that the D5 geartronic does have less torque than the manual and that the sales broucher and the owners manual do not corispond as for coverting NM to lbs ft I have no clue, so if anybody knows the converstion please feel free. For those who are intrested the T5 only has 320 MN of Torque, so my D5 has 80 more Yippe.

my T5 has 275lb-ft at the wheels
which with 10-15% transmission loss should be about 410-430Nm at the crank God I love torque! Back on thread - it seems logical the manual has a bit more torque, as is often the case with autos being derated a bit to protect the gearbox. |
