Question Performance upgrades

Hi All,

Im new to the forum having just bought a 1996 440 1.6i as a weekend project and was wondering, apart from a performance air filter is there anything else simple that i can do too increase performance?

It depends how far you want to go of course , but your money would be better spent looking for and buying a 400 turbo . Look to Renault for tuning bits , the formula renault single seaters used the 1721 cc version of your engine .

Also i have been noticing that when the car is idling it can be a bit up and down and when you go to move off in reverse mainly the revs go up quite rapidly and then seam to calm down and go back to normal.
Are these things linked? what could be causing this? haven't managed to get to the bottom of it yet.

Any ideas would be apreciated!

Thanks Clan. i thing il stick to this one for now. see how far i go with it. the cars pretty sound so i think its worth it.

Were would be the best place to start?

To be honest i wouldnt bother on a 1600 ... you could spend money and not go far, as people would get the 1721 or 1800 or even 2 litre version of your engine if they want more go .

Thanks Clan. Fair play. it only set me back £300 with six months tax and mot till sept. couldn't resist as i love these motors!

Might have a tinker about and see what happens!
