Ph1 or Ph2? Well i have a Ph2 850 ( so very nearly a V) and a Ph2 V70. The 850 has more character , it is so much less complicated, so DIY is easier. There is just less to go wrong.
The V is smoother, turning circle is rubbish, really annoying when 3-pointers become '5's'. There is leccy gizmos in every nook and cranny! So much to go wrong and become a nightmare to find! A good ph1 if you can find would be my choice

That's the dilemma alright; i do like toys in a car but also love the ability to maintain it myself and fix it when needed without having to book into a garage. Smoothness is appealing too though for those longer journeys with the kids

p1 cars can often have climate control, heated seats, headlamp wipers, cruise control, an excellent stereo, electric seats, electric windows, TRACS, a driver info computer, heated mirrors, fog-lamps, alloys, roof rails, rear spoiler, leather seats, integral child seats etc etc. How many more toys could you possibly want?
An all-in-one Bluetooth radio / voice-recognition sat-nav / i-Pod compatible 'infotainment centre' perhaps? Well as it happens the p1 has a double-DIN slot for audio, so whatever takes your fancy in the whizzy gizmo department at Halfords will slot straight in! By the way, my Saab has one of these things as standard - 3 years on I still don't know how to use it, the operator book for the 'infotainment' system is thicker than the car's handbook, and it's favourite phrase is 'No Command Recognised'. Whoever was daft enough to buy the car new spent almost £3k just on what is to all intents and purposes a fancy radio! A p1 Volvo is timeless and classless. Brilliant cars. Jack |

That's a santa sack full of toys. I get the message
I've found two near(ish) by that a fully working (no etm issues) and seem decent https://www.gumtree.com/p/ssangyong/...ain/1172147225 - 4 miles from my house http://shpock.com/int/used/Volvo-v70...nfrew/?force=1 - a bit of a drive but looks goods I think the first car might suit me better but the leather and colour of the other is appealing, I think the red one is a xt but I'm not sure about the silver one. I'll be getting a tow bar fitted so the silver is the obvious choice but I'm after roof rails too. Does anyone know if the V reg will have the etm that causes issues? |

I think etm's were fitted from about S or T reg onwards, so the V reg will definitely have one.
Still got my P reg for sale, but appreciate it's a loooong way from you. It does have a good old fashioned throttle cable though. |

ETM cars have blue grille badges, pre-ETM ones have black grille badges. The red one is one owner, full history, full MoT etc etc. Choosing just on the ads then the red one would get my vote.

I'm in no position to comment on which[P1 or P2]is the better. However just over a month ago I bought a V reg P1.It's a 10v 140 classic,it has leather with heated front seats but manual adjustment of these, ecc, headlamp wash/wipe leccy windows, roof rails a fairly rudimentary[it seems to me]trip computer thingy, cruise control and possibly some other stuff I've yet to discover.Mine's a 5sp manual and on a recent 220 odd mile round trip at mainly 60-65mph it returned just over 41 mpg. It's mot'd until April next year, had a new cat and lambda sensor this year to get it through the mot. It's got some service history with it and is showing 129,000 odd miles.Body work is sound paintwork is rubbish! But as I only paid £50 for it who am I to complain,it's quiet and supremely comfy which these days are my main criteria in a car.

Should I be put off by towbar?
I appreciate that a load of V70s have been used for towing and many have tow bards fitted but should a higher (170k) mileage turbo car (2.5t) that has a towbar concern me? I'm looking for older V70s now, pre etm issues and have found a few nicer 2.5t model but they have towbars and around 165k+ miles. I'm not sure what to think, they are volvo's after all but if they've spent their life towing might they be problematic.
for example i really like this car, not sure why buy the interior looks great with the turquoise; to me anyway http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...code=p&adPos=4 |
