4 year service done
Had my 4 year service done at dealer yesterday.
£425 including new set of front windscreen wipers. At only 18700mls the front tyres worn to about 3.5mm and advisory on health check ! (rear about 6.2mm) I'm not a fast driver so a bit surprised. I was thinking of swopping them corner to corner to level out wear. What do you guys think ? Iain

If you do that then there will be a period of 'scrubbing' as they bed in to their new locations, so unnecessary wear.
Why do you want to even out the wear? You'll end up having to replace all 4 at once! In any case, the best gripping pair should always be on the rear.

interesting comment re bedding in Zebster.
I don't mind replacing all four at the same time if I could get over 25K from them. Iain ps always got over 30K from my Landrovers

Please don't forget that if you decide to replace just the two tyres, the new tyres should always be put on the rear.

With your current wear rate i'd leave it as is.
Next summer swap the rears onto the front and get new tyres on the back.

Did you have the fuel filter replaced? Peterborough Volvo didn't change mine on sale for the 4th service.
After a couple of months I continually had a stalling problem whilst pulling away at low temperatures. I eventually got the filter changed elsewhere and the problem hasn't arisen in 4 months. |

According to Volvo fuel filter should be changed every second service - good advice. Some mechanics say you should have it changed every year/service!

Looking today I noticed that the air filter housing box was dislodged from it's position and I had to sort it properly, which I am not happy about. Iain

I have both a car trailer which has required tyre changes based on age rather than tread depth. Likewise my classic cars which even though out of direct sunlight for most of their life suffer rubber perishing. Six years seems to be the commonly agreed time beyond which tyres are increasingly prone to exhibit the signs of degradation due to perishing. |
