2005 V70 trailer module and wheel centre cap wanted
Hi everyone,
I'm new around here as I've just bought a 2005 V70. It's currently missing one of the wheel centre caps however so I'm looking for one if anyone has one spare. I'm also looking to fit a tow bar but it doesn't have the trailer module fitted. The tow bar I got came with some wiring and a single plug but I've nowhere to connect it. Looking at the fuse board on the LHS there is a "Trailer" socket with nothing connected so I think that's where I need the module to go. I'm only really after the 7pin one if that helps as it's for a trailer not a caravan. Regards, Wingers |

Yes, you'll need a trailer module and they are available with a 7 pin loom.
FYI: Centre caps come in two types: black or the later dark grey ironmark logo. |

Thanks Simon
I'll check which caps I have. Do the trailer modules come up for sale on here much? I'd have thought there must be plenty of cheap cars sold to people who don't need them to tow. Wingers |

I recently sold the spare one I had. Don't come up for sale that frequently and there's not that many people that can be bothered to remove a unit from an existing installation unless they're scapping whole car. They're not actually prohibitively expensive to buy direct from Volvo (under £100) so again, no huge market for second hand modules.

Forget to mention, there may or may not be a software update required. There are some differences of opinion as to whether it's just to turn off the normal rear foglight when towing, or whether the car needs it to 'see' the module. The chap who bought my module plugged it in and it just worked so you should be ok.

OK, I'll try that first then.
I've only seen them on ebay etc so far and they've been more than £100 but I never thought to actually check with a main dealer. For that price I'll probably try my luck with splicing it in first to see if that works. From what I've read it seems to be ok. I'm not fussed about turning off the rear fog light so wouldn't need a software update either way. BTW I checked and my centre caps are black if anyone has one going. Thanks. |

Trouble with splicing it in is that it could cause problems with the light monitoring system, plus you won't get the tell-tale light on the dash so you'd have to fit an alternative light or sounder.
There is a trailer module on eBay but you'd need to ask the seller to include the wiring loom to make it worthwhile: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-V70-...wAAOSw-0xYfpuB Last edited by Simon Jones; Feb 8th, 2017 at 19:08. |

Simon,
Yes I've just spotted that one too but it looks like it doesn't have the loom to connect it to the car. The tow bar I have included a buzzer already fitted in the loom and it looks like the correct plug to go into the trailer module (not sure why I would also need the buzzer in that case though). There's another one on eBay, but some careless clot has cut the 7 pin socket off but that's relatively easy to replace. There is no need to cut anything off as all that is required is to remove the rubber bung from the boot floor and withdrawer the loom out.
