Default four c suspension

Hi All

I needed some advice on options for replacing shock absorbers on my new car.

having had it a few days I find out the reason why its handling like **** is because all the shock absorbers are gone. the car is a 56 plate s60 d5 se sport. as you can imagine, I had a minor myocardial infarction when ringing Volvo for prices, over £1000, my questions was as follows

1. can I replace the electronic shocks with standard ones and if so which are the best ones to use that don't trip any EML lights

2. if I have to get four c shocks, where is the cheapest place to buy them.

I appreciate your help

thanks in advance.

Try Simon at FRF Volvo.
Trades here as "Rufe"

Don't buy cheap replacements, sorry, have you tried going back to the vendor and discussing what to do with knackered shockers?

Hello, yes i bet you had a bit of a shock off Volvo regards the price.
Your only other option is to get them direct from Monroe.

Dont worry, the prices wont be anything like the dealers.

I did mine a few months ago.

Good luck.

I know that yours will be a slighly different set up than mine but just to give you an idea on how to do it i did a bit of a write up on mine.

You dont say which ones you are replacing but this is me doing my rear shocks.

hi

thanks for your reply. I pretty sure all 4 shocks are done , if not just the front. what was the ride like after replacing the shocks? at the moment my car handles really poorly, steering is thrown off direction when hitting a bump hard and as such feels out of control on motorway.

Post Aftermarket shocks-be careful!

We tried the Monroe option on a customers S60 a while back to try and save him money.

The shocks did fit and were correct as we checked & ordered them with Monroe, but the car didn't recognise the shocks and kept bringing up fault codes.

This could have been a one-off but the genuine Volvo shocks seem to have something in them which communicates with the car electronically which is different to the Monroe shocks.

The fault couldn't be erased so the customer had to live with it.

It's odd because the genuine Volvo shocks are made by Monroe, Volvo must modify them slightly at the factory.

a one off or you had the shocks for the R model supplied by mistake, they have 3 different modes, I have fitted the Monroe shocks for my 4c system along with a lot more people on this forum with no issues what so ever.

sounds more like worn suspension bushes than knackered shocks tbh.

Hi,it now feels as though it should, softish in comfort mode and firm in sports mode.

Check the shocks to see if there are any signs of them leaking

Does it feel very soft in sport mode?
