Default engine coolant temp problem

Hello i wonder if anybody has had a similar proble and could give me advice?

From starting cold my engine coolant temperature reads full scale, since this has happened the following symptoms have occured no heat generated even when heating on max also every so often engine (automatic) stalls, have taken to garage thinking it was thermostat however this checks out fine, any suggestions please cheers

Assume you're not losing coolant? Have they also checked the temp sensor?

I had a random temp guage, lack of heat in the heater etc etc. Changed the stat and the sensor... all sorted now. Piece of cake to change yourself, it really is a 10 minute job.

Coolant temperature sensor.
