Sounds like they've sorted it out. It can do 24 miles using only the battery.

interesting how the motoring "journalist" seems to think that charging the battery with electrickery every night uses no fuel.
Ideal for commuting to the station. Just the thing for the task, 2 1/2 tons of over compicated lorry that doesnt fit in a parking space

Much better options for £60k plus.

I just can't see 316bhp 2lt engines being reliable or long lived.

2lt turbos never get anywhere near claimed mpg figures in real world conditions either. If you have a heavy right foot you won't get half the claimed mpg.

They should just put a V6 in the xc90.

However if you happen to have a co. car and pay the HMRC for the pleasure of driving it based on co2 emmissions then a T8 leased for 3 years is a simply fantastic proposition.....

I used to work for Vauxhall and our service manager was given a 1.4 turbo Insignia. It looked bloody brilliant in all fairness but his first journey was from Boston to Leeds, when he brought it back he was amazed. He said it had the equivalent pulling power of a 1.8, but where a 1.8 would have averaged 36-40mpg this 1.4 barely made 24mpg.

Suffice to say he was gutted it took a couple of months to sell as he had to fuel it out of his own pocket. Funnily enough they never made the new owner aware of this on the test drive😁

Cheers

I had a similar experience with a 200bhp 1.6 turbo. Low to mid 20's at best and run out of steam at 90mph and sounded like a hairdryer.

Modern petrol turbos get nowhere near claimed mpg figures.

Turbo engines are fine off turbo and are perfect for manufacturers to use within the testworld though.

I must admit to being impressed by so many, however back in the real world and am on the lookout for a bmw i have settled on their straight 6 diesel 3.0 litre....reasonable mpg with lots of go...and equally reasonable emissions....just needing to find our next rental place first to have more space to keep mycurrent car as well before getting the bm.
