1997/R V40 2.0 "Confusing" headlights
Hiya guys.
I'm getting a confusing lighting combination. With the switch on "O" I get sidelights and mainbeam. With the switch on "Dipped" I get no lights at all. And with the switch on "Main" I get the same as in position "O". Is this a common problem? Does anyone know what the hell is going on here? Thanks. LOZ! |

"O" is for daylight running lights, middle is side lights, and 2 is main lights. The difference between "o" and two is that on 2 you can switch to high beam, and on "o" you can only flash high beam .

Thanks Piperdave for your reply.
Ahhh so "O" doesn't mean "Off" then. Thats cleared it up. My side lights must be at fault then. Bulbs or relay problem. Cheers. LOZ! |

is the car second-hand? has it been bought like that or has it developed the fault?
if its the former, i would check the wiring

Yes mate its WAY second hand!
I've taken the switch out and the wiring colours seem to be in the correct positions. I may check the side light relay to see if its faulty. But I know I have to change both headlights anyway cos they are both pointing upwards so much that I can't see where I am going unless I use the fog lights! They are held in by cable ties so there is no adjustment at all left there. RAGE! |
