I had an amazing crystal set in my early childhood. circa 1953. Dad made it for me, it was in a wooden box complete with a carrying handle. It had a tuning dial on the front flanked by a number of switches and terminals. The earth was a wire leading into the bathroom whilst the aerial was my train track. Spent hours huddling under my bedclothes (no C/H in those days) with my ex WD headphones on listening to Dick Barton? fade in and out.
It was only years later that I discovered that most of the switches and terminals were just for show and weren't connected to anything.

I was wondering why a crystal set would need switches!

Sad news today about Steve wright….. there was talk of him bringing back a show on DAB similar to the big show he used to present. I’m sure it would have been just as good as times of old. Many a fond memory listening to Steve in the afternoon in many of the workshops at work.
