Default 850 Specifications

Bit of a duma$$ questions I think but can someone give me a quick rundown of the specs of the L,M,N,P 850s in rising order? i.e. is a GLT higher spec than a CD etc? I've had a look at the Parkers guide for specifications/options but they all look pretty similar.

Regards

Oh and anyone know what "was CAT'd" means? as in the following advert -

1993 L Reg Volvo 850 2.0 GLT Black, Estate, ABS, Air Bag, Alloy Wheels, Automatic Transmission, Electric Sunroof, Electric Windows, Immobilizer, Leather Upholstery, Power-Assisted Steering. Was Cat' D hence the low price.

Do older 850's not have CATs and thus have been added (along with the redution in performance)?

Reagrds

92 was the mandatory year for cats - but I suspect this is an insurance write-off category.

I don't know what all the categories stand for, but it could be the uneconomical repair, that some dealers, or people who are handy with cars, sort out. Doesn't necessarily mean it was a huge concern - it will depend on what the category means. However, it may have insurance impact, as well as any residual value.

As far as i know the range goes like this; S, SE, GLE, GLT, CD. However, throw in some options and alot of GLT's are similar specs to CD's.

The details are on www.volvoclub.org.uk/techdata.htm

The cat D is some classification for an insurance claim on the car.

Hope this helps

Hey
In relation to the category thing in this context i would take it as an accident concerning the insurance at sometime, correct me if im wrong but i think that category d means that the car has been damaged but the damage was repairable and the vehicle was not written off.

I think the insurance category's run from A-E with A being the worst damaged and E the least. I once bought a cat D vehicle. It hadn't had accident damage, but had water damage from a flood.

Sorry to throw a query in on this one but, I understood the range went along these lines:

S, SE, GLT, GLE which then in MY '96 became the CD. Think this is correct but happy to stand corrected!

Cat D means that the vehicle has been the subject of an insurance claim and the insurers have decided that the vehicle is uneconomical to repair. When deciding on whether or not a vehicle is economical to repair the insurer will use the following ptinciple:

If cost of repair is greater than 60% of vehicle market value then class as total loss.

There are 4 categories of write off. Cats A - D and they are as follows:

Cat A - Total loss, unable to salvage any parts. e.g Burnt Out
Cat B - Total loss, parts salvageable. e.g Major damage, chassis bent
Cat C - Total loss, can be repaired, repairs exceed £2,000
Cat D - Total loss, can be repaired, repairs less than £2,000. Vehicles in this category are often written off to minimise hire charges.

Hope this clarifies the write off situation.
