5 Speed to 6 Speed
I was just wondering if I would be able to fit the 2.5L engine's 6 speed gearbox to my 2L petrol car.
As having the 5 gears it revs quiet high at motorway speed, so being able to upgrade if possible would be great. Any help is appreciated Thanks, Adam |

it may do if both engines are the same type but the gearing will ruin the car it will make it lifeless and thirsty , it will feel like it has a 1500 cc engine in it . There is nothing wrong with doing those higher rpm at 70 mph , always plenty of power on tap , I assume now it is the ford/mazda 2.0 4 cylinder ...??

For reference at 70MPH my 2.0i is doing 3,050RPM, my Dad's car with 6 gears (also a 2.0i engine - Mazda CX-5) will do it at 2,500RPM.
I've driven a Vauxhaull Mokka (eurgh) which was pulling over 4K RPM at 70MPH so 3K RPM doesn't seem that bad to me!

volvo chose the gearing to suit mpg /emissions / power available . I daresay the ford focus with this engine has similar gearing , remember the main power from this engine comes from 5000 to 7000 rpm so it's quite comfortable at 70 at 3000+ rpm . Fuel consumption is not necessarily related to higher rpm . I have an engine which does 5000 rpm at 70 and does 50 mpg and 100 mph .
