you need to be the present owner or ! a past owner as they will know there end on database thats all the criteria you need to gain that info

Do you think they will provide the info if I give my fathers name, when he owned it and the address it was registered to when he owned it? Obviously we have the same surname also.

it must be your dad that fills in the form basicaly anyone that was a previous owner can apply so i would fill in the form with your dads info state the old address and add on there if the address has changed to included the new one and then the form will 100% go through and the info posted to your dad at his new address will follow shortly after it gets processed

Form sent to DVLA so fingers crossed it comes back with something useful.

Would this car have had a VIN number? And if so is there a way I can calculate it from the information I have?

No it wouldnt, VIN didnt come out until 20 years later !
it only has a chassis number ...

So my dad got a letter from the DVLA today. Got all excited only to find a letter saying they won't tell him anything due to data protection

Looks like a dead end unless anyone has any other ideas?
