Angry XC70 whining rear diff.

I have a 2010 XC70 AWD, the bearings in the rear diff were so noisy that I have had to have it replaced today, the car had only covered 74,000 miles, and I was shocked and dissapointed that the diff should fail so soon, has anyone suffered the same problem with such a low mileage car?
The car has a full Volvo service history and after many letters and emails Volvos final offer is 20% contribution towards parts and labour, very poor!
This is my first and by the looks of it my last Volvo!

I thought I had the same problem, 2005 V70 awd, 74000 miles, but it was the prop shaft bearing!

I bet they had FORD cast into the side ... It is possible to change the faulty bearing , one is numbered , the other might be able to be located by measuring it . Or take the unit out and let a transmission specialist repair it .
