Default Help!!! V40 2004 Is my cam belt tensioner ok?

Hi all and happy new year!
Its getting on to 23:00 here, and Im a bit stuck!

Just fitting the new cambelt, done it once, but as per Haynes instructions, I pressed the belt between the cam pulleys and looked at the indicator on the tensioner.

It moved to the right but doesn't move back! The book says its supposed to move back after I take my thumb off the belt!

Ive just reinstalled the old tensioner (neither the belt nor the tensioner have EVER been changed before!)
The old tensioner does the same thing.

Any ideas? Its getting late here and Im running out of pot noodles!

Thanks

It got late and I had to drive the car home!
In the end decided to set the pointer further to the right.
It doesn't move now when I push on the belt.
Hopefully, it's not over tight now!
It was 0 deg C when I did it so temperature may make a difference!

I may do a write up of the belt change, learned a lot!

Fingers crossed it's ok.
