There's a solution to all of that, and it comes with 8 cylinders and a sports suspension - if you're ok with 18 MPG average urban and knowing every local pothole intimately.

More seriously, I agree with XC90Mk1. I can't imagine the manual XC90 being any more of an 'involving' drive than the auto counterpart to any real extent, given the other dominant aspects of its personality. Automatic problems occur but generally a recon unit doesn't seem to cost more than I've paid in the past for a combined clutch and DMF replacement on a V70 manual.

These cars are very suited to automatic transmission, which I guess is why so many of them were sold in that configuration.

TBH I'm not a 'swapper' of cars. I tend to buy because I just like 'em and keep till it or me 'dies' in some way, shape or form...

Similarly, I see little point in foot flat down acceleration. Being in Yorkshire the last thing I want to do is give a fuel company more than I have to. That said, I dont hang about when I need to 'go'.

I simply like the vehicle. I miss my Trooper no end and want to enjoy being sat up above the boring hedgerows again.

Still looking folks... Even looking at importing from Japan!!

Interesting! I can’t remember if I said it or not but regarding fuel you really want to check when the 200PS engine came out as it is apparently a lot more efficient than the 185 version.
