Default Installing XC60 mud flaps

Hi

Does anyone have experience of fitting official Volvo mud flaps to a new style XC60 (MY2020)?

I’m not hugely technical with cars so if the wheels need to be removed and bits drilled etc I might just ask the dealer to quote for installation.

I guess what I’m asking is whether it’s easy enough for a novice to attempt?

Thanks

If it’s anything like my car then it’s very easy and if you have a short stubby screwdriver you can do it without taking the wheels off.

Jacking the car up gives you a bit more room.

Thanks; the packet looks to have rivets included which I might struggle with as I don’t have a gun. Also some mention of drilling through the material which I thought would involve removing the rear wheels.

Still, no harm in taking a look I guess.

Thanks for your reply

After my local dealership quoted £240 to install (that is install - I already had the parts) I decided to give it a go myself!

Front ones went on really easily, no trouble.

Back ones went on absolutely fine - bit tight with the screws but manageable. However I am left with a part from the fittings packet - long spindle like thing, think it's a rivet? There's no indication where it should go either on the body or on the guard itself (there's no hole for it that I could see).

The back ones feel like they're on pretty solidly just with the four screws so am going to stick with it.

If the XC60 is like the XC90, the flaps are fitted with screws in the same locations as the liner is fixed.
If rivets are supplied, perhaps the flaps are for the previous generation XC60?

There are not any rivets according to the installation instructions, but there is a plastic clip to fit.

I din't think there were rivets, but Hunter303 mentioned them, hence my reply.

Thanks both.

I found the installation instructions - link here if you wanted to take a look: https://accessories.volvocars.com/en...XC60(18-)/2020

These correspond to the part number I’ve got and to my MY. Two rivets definitely included in the fixing accessories.

The instructions show that the rear flaps need to be screwed in (which I’ve done) then apparently, from what I can make out, you drill through the plastic using a 5ml metal bit and use a rivet gun to secure. I’ve ordered a gun from Amazon.

The only things I’m not sure about are 1) how far to drill through, and whether I’ll be going through the sheet metal (after getting through the plastic on the guard and the felt lining) - presumably I will be hence why suggested use of metal bit and it makes sense to give the rivet something to secure to - just a slightly scary thought drilling through your new car! And 2) how to use a rivet gun - will watch some YouTube videos and maybe practice on some scrap metal.

Of course I could be massively over complicating the whole thing, which wouldn’t be the first time for me lol

Hunter

The "rivets" you are referring to appear to be a standard type of plastic fitting clip commonly used for fixing internal and external trim panels. They are a push fit and your finger will normally do it or the lightest tap with a small hammer. Sorry, but I'm pretty sure you don't need a rivet gun.

Thanks Tony, appreciate the input - but if you check the instructions I linked to, it definitely shows a rivet gun as being part of the tools needed. The part supplied looks like a fairly standard rivet, not a plastic clip.

Am going to try giving it a go tomorrow.

Cheers
