Default Service pricing

I’ve got a nice email from my local dealership to book my car in for 4 year or 70,000 service and also the first MOT that is due.
I haven’t driven my car much since August but thought it’s best to get it serviced and MOTed anyway.
The price quoted looks a bit high so I’ve checked this on Volvo’s website.
Price showing on website for this dealership is about £80 cheaper.
Went back to dealership with this information and I was told the prices on the website are just to entice customers and not reflective of the actual price.
Has anyone heard this?
I’m trying to get them to honour the price and still awaiting confirmation.

Perhaps the dealer has forgotten about consumer law and advertising....but more likely they are not comparing like this like. Eg they may have included brake fluid replacement when talking to you but omitted that on the website.

It’s worth ringing up another dealer and asking them for a quote, then seeing if one will match the other.

For me, down here in Sussex, the closer dealer was always £70 more than the further away one, but the closer dealer always included brake fluid in their quote. Which was £70 or thereabouts.

Thanks. For reference the Volvo website displayed the price specific to my local dealership. This is the website : https://www.volvocars.com/uk/own/mai...e/book/details

However to be fair the website quote is a bit vague, as it doesn’t consider consumables like brake fluid etc.

I don’t think considering another dealership would work for me, as it’s over 40 miles away.

I’m hoping they will honour the website price. I’m just a bit confused why there is a different price quoted.

I could probably get the car serviced cheaper at an indie, but would prefer to keep full Volvo service history, especially for car that requires software updates.

Brake fluid is not part of ANY service , It is advised every 2 years , it is not compulsory or automatically added to a service quotation .. you cant get the staff these days ..

Also if you mention you have done very low mileage since last time , ask them for the Volvo ESSENTIAL Service which is a minimalistic one for such situations ...

Thanks, I will mention essentials when I get a reply. Doesn’t sound like they are too happy when I mentioned the quote on the website

If brake fluid is recommended to be changed every 2 years, I’d imagine it would be quoted if required? I should be doing about 65,000 miles by now, but due to lockdown I’ve only done 55,000. £420 or (£490) depending on reply for the service. Ouch.

Generally don’t look forward to Feb-April. It’s when all the insurance and service are due

I've got my service (number 7) at the dealer next week. When they called me I explained that I'd only done about 3k miles since the last service (which was a relatively major one) and that I was thinking of not bothering. They immediately suggested a minimal/essential service instead for about half the cost (£189)... I asked what WOULDN'T get done and it amounted to a washer fluid check plus a general/safety check which will all be covered by the MoT I'm getting locally on Friday anyway! I get the service booked stamped and even get the annual Volvo breakdown cover included.

Good point, I’d probably mention this then.
I’m planning to get the MOT done at Volvo anyway.

I’ve also taken out Volvo extended warranty.
I have misplaced the documents but I’m guessing the requirement is to have my car serviced at Volvo?
Just checked prices at local indie and it’s much cheaper.

Also if you’re a VOC member you should get a better price.

Every car which passes through a volvo workshop for what ever reason gets a health check which is pretty comprehensive ... so poor staff training again ...

and NO a mot is not a health check they won't inflate the tyres or fill the wash bottle or tell you the aux belt is about to fall off for example ... ..
