My V90 found and downloaded this update yesterday, but I was out in my wife’s XC40 today and it said that there were not any updates available.

yes... just like with cellphones. updates aren't always available at the same time. each model receives them in different times.

As a slight aside from this, I'm off to France later this year (lockdown allowing) and I notice there's an update to the France maps available but it's too big to download in the car. Is it as simple as downloading from Volvo.com onto a USB and sticking that in the car?

Also, first post, new member. First time as a Volvo owner and I have to say I love it so far!

Indeed it is, you download the update onto a USB, stick it into the car and the update will begin. Sat-Nav remains unavailable for the duration and you get a % completed where the sat nav logo is on the home screen of the center display.

Pretty much, although the actual map download is done using an app which is downloaded when you follow the maps download link on the Volvo website. The USB stick to be used should be empty.

I think this depends on whether you are upgrading the whole of Europe or just one of the regions. I believe satnav is unavailable whilst upgrading the whole of Europe but satnav is available whilst upgrading one of the regions.

Yes that’s true, I think you’re right. I update the full Europe map when I do it so haven’t actually done a smaller region myself.
