Default Auto hand brake

Is there anyway to turn off the auto hand brake?
My car hasn’t move for a month until today, when I reversed the car out of my garage there was a distinct thump as the brakes released, for about 4 miles the there was a rubbing sound .

Pretty sure it's in the car settings on the main Senus console...

As above its parking brake and suspension, just un-tick the box for auto parking brake

Is it not the "A" button just next to the parking brake button? Mine has a "P" button for the handbrake and then an "A" button for enabling auto handbrake.

Different function, that is Auto hold, there is a setting to automatically apply parking brake when engine turned off that can be disabled in settings.

I don't think I have ever ticked a box in sensus. All i do is turn off and walk away. The car automatically goes into Park and puts the handbrake on.

I am certain with autohold that the "A" in a circle displayed on the dash will always default to a "P" in a circle when you switch off. Such a system as autohold will always have to default to safe surely?

When I am next in the car I will check out the checkbox in sensus and see if it has been ticked, but I suspect not....

Autohold applies the brakes via hydraulic pressure. The handbrake is a different system.

My 2017 D5 XC90 does not go into park when you switch the engine off, in fact you can't turn the engine off until you put it in park position, when in park it will hold the car by locking the transmission up, without the use of the parking brake.
Although I do have mine set to apply the parking brake automatically when engine is turn off, the auto hold then changes to red parking brake symbol.
Having to put it in park before turning engine off is the default safety measure to stop car rolling by locking the transmission on my D5.

The T8 may be set up differently.
