Heated Screen vs Pre-Heater T8
Hi All
I currently have a 2018 xc60 D4 which has a heated front screen, which is great on these cold mornings. I’m looking at a new 2021 T8 which has as standard head up display. I’m not a fan of the HUD particularly but I’m wondering is having the heated front screen or not going to be an issue with the fuel fired heater in the T8 ? Will I miss the heated screen if I don’t have it on the new one ???

I don’t know how fast the heated screen works, but if you turn your heater on 10 mins before your ride it will defrost it very well. I can imagine the heated screen is faster... so if time is not an issue for you then you will not miss it.

I’ve had them both. Heated screen is faster yes but I find the aux heater in the T8 fast enough; and of course it actually heats up the car too.
I reckon the heated screen would clear windscreen only in approx 5 mins depending on just how cold it is. Aux heater 10-15 mins to clear the entire car. But that’s fine I just flick it on via the app beforehand if frozen. So in summary. I’m quite glad my car has the hud and don’t miss the heated screen like I thought I would.

Only time I use heated screen is when remote pre heat won't start due to low fuel. Typically though the low fuel non start only tends to be when its really cold so I do find it useful but it wouldn't be a deal breaker if everything else is to your liking.

Would someone please confirm if the fuel burning heater blows warm air directly into the cabin or does it warm the engine coolant and then have the normal blower bring the warm air in.
Thanks. |

I went from heated screen on my V90 to remote start on the V60. There's not really much in it really. With On Call I can fire it up and leave it to defrost, where with the heated screen since I didn't have VOC, I had to wait for it anyway. I can't say I miss the screen!

It warms the coolant so that the engine block is also pre-heated.

Thanks for the responses - all seems to make sense. I use the remote start in the D4 but as it’s diesel it takes longer to get any heat into the car so I was hoping the pre heater may be more effective on the T8. The heated screen is pretty quick so gets around the issue at the moment.
