Default Droning noise from front

Any ideas... Took off the bumper to do siren. Put it back on fine but left off the jet covers.

It then made droning above 30 which I presumed was the air rushing in the hole.

Have put it all back together fully but still droning.

It isn't rev dependent as can't do it in neutral coast or when stationary

I'm guessing wheel bearing or balancing issue ?

Sorry mis worded there. Putting it in neutral while rolling doesn't stop it so it isn't dependent on revs but is only present when rolling.

Not a loose wheel arch liner rubbing on the tyre is it?

How many miles are on your car?

Chock a rear wheel where the vehicle won't roll forward. Break the front lugs free. Place car in neutral.

Raise the front end and set on jack stands ('safety stands' in UK car-English).

Remove the front wheels and turn each hub by hand and feel for any roughness or difference.

Better than doing one-side-at-a-time because making a comparison will be immediate.

You can also try a long turn whilst droning.
Try each direction separately as the load shifting to one side or another will often relieve the bad bearing and the noise will cease briefly.

I had an osf wheel bearing and hub replaced yesterday because of a droning noise. Could be your problem, although mine got progressively louder, has yours come on suddenly?

Hi,

Three things I would check;

1. If its a front wheel bearing then usually the drone will change (louder or quieter) when driving and turning to the left or right.

2. Swap the tires from front to back. I have had a set of (cheap) tires gradually start droning as they wore down.

3. If you have the bottom engine tray check its fitted correctly especially at the front and not vibrating at speed.

hopefully its one of these.
Let us know when you have tracked it down.

Bob
