Default S40 Turbo

My S40 1.9 Diesel went into the garage last week because there was no acceleration and lots of smoke coming out of the exhaust. They plugged it in and never got any fault codes but then said I needed a new turbo. Should this not have showed up with a fault code and should I take it to another garage for a 2nd opinion?

Hi,

Symptoms are typical of a gone turbo, presence of fault codes depends on whether or not there's a sensor/module in your turbo to generate send them.

How many miles do you have on the clock? do you change your oil frequently with the specified type?

96k on the clock. Only got the car 6 months ago and got an oil and filter change straight away but not sure how well it was kept before I got it.

The garage are trying to find a 2nd hand turbo but to no avail so far. Any idea as to where is the best place to pick one up?

You could try this site, just leave an enquiry and they'll get back to you.

Start by choosing Volvo from the "car parts" drop down list and click go, on the second page click on "Get Quotes"

if a turbo blows ,then you check and drain the intercooler, there is a drain plug remove it there should be an oil and water mix to remove.if you have a lot of oil in the intercooler ,the vseals in the turbo are blown.
