Multiple Bulb Failures warning
S80 2000 year
I have had the above message and the following bulbs have stopped working but only on the driver side, on the passenger side all the bulbs work. brake light daytime running light on front dipped headlight daytime running light on rear. I did change one of the bulbs but no surprise the new one didn't work either. Is there a solution for someone like me, who's not technical? Thanks in advance. Danny |

If you have multiple bulbs not working in one lamp cluster then look for the common factor: the ground wire
The most likely place for a ground wire fault is in the connector of the lamp cluster, as this is the location most likely exposed to the most weather. Ensure connectors are clean and dry. Suspect any wires or pins which have signs of corrosion on them And the other possible place for a ground wire fault is where the wire bolts to the vehicle body. Either follow the wire, or refer to VIDA for your car.

Corrosion in the sockets as SwissXC90 said.
This is where the dielectric grease comes in. |

Ok many thanks to everyone for your help.
I started from a position of ignorance. I have had the car 20 years and had never opened the fuse box on the dashboard. For almost all the time I have had the car I have been getting a 'position light failure' warning. A long time ago I was told that this was the light that switched on and told you where the car was in a car park, so for best part of twenty years I've ignored it. But the warning seems to relate to be two small adjacent lights in the lower clusters at the rear. Two in the right cluster were out, hence I was getting that warning. When the right dipped beam went out that flipped the warning into 'multiple bulb failure', and at some stage recently the right brake light went. I replaced the dipped beam I had with a spare which was faulty. That, and the fact that all the out bulbs were on the right side, and all seemed to have gone at the same time made me think it was something other than the bulbs. But it was the bulbs. Ignorance is bliss. And thanks again for your help. Last edited by dannynolan; Jul 14th, 2019 at 18:15. |
