To keep and drive so ideally with an MOT. I don't mind if it needs abit of work though.

We've just had a baby. Wife has a golf and I drive an Morris minor which isn't over practical with a baby and a dog. A classic Volvo is just a car we agree on. Have always loved them aswell.

Yes a diesel would be lovely. Have only found one so far.

Unfortunately my budget is around £1000-1500 or under £2000 for the right one maximum.

I'm sure one will pop up.

Unless you particularly want the RWD characteristics of the 7 and 9 series cars, Steven, may I suggest that you might also consider adding an early V70 to your list.

When our long-term ownership 745 finally died of terminal corrosion in 2016, we looked in vain for a suitable replacement. We eventually settled on a late P1 (2000 'V' reg) that was tucked away in the corner of the dealer's forecourt. Long story short; we bought it 'as seen' with 118K up for £550. We have it still, now with 135K up, Apart from routine maintenance and MOTs, all it has required is attention to the brakes and tyres.

A very worthy car; almost, but not quite, as commodious as the 7 and 9 series and well within your budget. They are FWD of course, and after the RWD cars, the steering lock is enormous! Mine even came with the integrated kiddie seat in the centre of the rear seat, as well as the rear facing child seats in the boot, neither of which I have a use for, but which could be useful to you with your new addition.

Being newer, there are probably still more around to choose from, too!

Fully agree with you.

Especially the cheaper tax ones very cheap motoring. The older V70 are certainly the best value. The wife also wants a XC90 but insurance and tax is steep.

Fully concur about the V70.

I have a '90 745 and a low milage '98 V70 T5 CD auto (20v 2.4 ltr) for 2+ years now. The trim on the V70 is a bit plasticy/creeky in places! However, the car is a total a delight to drive but only turns in about 24.4 mpg!

Currently prices are good value for the right one but as usual exercise caution when buying.
