There is a small vacuum hose from the regulator to the inlet manifold, when the diaphragm is gone, you get gas from this hose, which effectively floods the engine when warm.

Can't you tell that it's out of style?
Should I get a set of white wall tires?
Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?

And then when you'd really like to know if we're on the right track, (reckon we are) and OP has picked our brains, he's gone...
Thus we don't learn anything.... he does. Makes me wonder if I should ever spill the beans on this at all.

I've not gone just given up on the car.
I bought one and within a couple hundred miles the radiator died and it's going to need a new clutch and dmf.
Currently SORNED and gathering dust.
Shame as the bodywork and interior are in excellent condition.
I will put it for sale as spares/repairs.
