Lpg Advice.
I have a Volvo 240 GLT with B230E engine running K jet Injection and am seriously thinking of getting it Lpg converted.
I have received a quote which was the cheapest. Using the agis system ,zavoli reducer and omvl injectors and the gas tank manufacturer stako or bormech. This kit is fully fitted for £550 What is this system like, cheap, poor quality? How about a BRC system, quoted £1,000? How about a Stag go fast 200. Price £650 What system would you recommend and price? I would like a big tank under the estate floor compartment, or have another in the spare side pocket, what size would fit in each? How much would it cost to fill? Around the midlands seems to be around 40- 50p a litre. How many miles would you get approximately to a tank? Anyone have any recommended LPG installers in Birmingham or surrounding? Many thanks. James Last edited by volvo always; Aug 9th, 2016 at 21:06. |

When I ran LPG on a Saab Aero I used Oxford Autogas, who I rated. It's run by Kenny, who I'm sure would be happy to discuss and advise.

The installers that have given you quotes will crap themselves when the open the bonnet and find the system they quoted for can not be used. K jet is mechanical injection and the LPG injection systems can only be fitted to electronic injection engines.
Tank on a 240 estate is also an issue as there are 3 options. 1) slap a big cylinder in the back buggering up the load area 2) change the exhaust and cut a hole in the boot floor for a small cylinder tank to fit in the way the dutch do it 3) use a expensive special vertical mounted tank in the spare wheel well With the vertical tank range is just over 200 miles (with a manual) on kjet so is just enough to not be a pain. With an auto range is less but you should still be able to live with it |

Presumably then OPs car would need a single-point lpg injection system, gas hose into "carb" or air intake.
Dutch method of fitting tank sounds the best to me, biggest tank, and a nice stainless back exhaust box.

Hi thanks So what system should I be looking for? Option 2 sounds the best option. How many litres would it hold and what range? It would be nice to get 300 miles plus.
How much should the above conversion cost with reasonable quality components? Many thanks. James |

You will need a mixer venturi system fitting, OMVL always used to have the best vapouriser for induction systems but they ahve made changes to them for the worse and now they do not work as well as they used to. The Bigas M84 is now probably the better bet.
The option 2 tank is roughly the same capacity as option 3 but a lot more work to fit. Option 2 and 3 together would give a good range. You will need cargo rear springs to cope with the extra weight. Price of conversion you would have to discuss with the installer if you can find one prepared to do what is needed and knows how to setup the open loop mixer system. Mixer systems do have a drawback in that they can backfire, in the case of K jet a backfire can damage the air flow meter. There are some things that can be done to help prevent this |
