Default 2.0t and t4 engine codes.

Hi all, does anyone know if the engine code for the 2.0t would be different between a t4 and a 2.0t, as I have beemade aware of an engine for sale that could potentially go in my t4, the description says that it's a 2.0t engine, but the engine code states that it's a b4204t5, which is a t4 lump surely?

Many thanks in advance

I can't remember off hand but if you check the 6th and 7th character of your VIN that'll be your engine code.

The B4204T5 is a T4 engine yes.

The 2.0T will have a different engine code as it runs a different compression ratio to the T4.

It's probably just listed as a 2.0T because to non Volvo knowers - It's just a 2.0 with a turbo....

Check it's definitely a B4204T5 before you buy.

How would you check it? Is it stamped into the block somewhere? If someone was really trying to pull a con, swapping the ****ty plastic cambelt cover would be an easy fraud.

For 100 quid I'm willing to take the risk, according to the listing it's done 90k and had a new head gasket and the valves re ground prior to coming up for sale, purchased

Standing at the front of the car I think it's stamped into the head, above cylinder 4, and to the rear of the block, cylinder 1, just below the head gasket.

This is it, just pictures of the eBay listing for now as I'm picking it up on Friday, the description says 2.0t but the engine says otherwise, fingers crossed.

valves should never be ground the exhaust valves are stellite coated … if any valve needs grinding there is a problem, I wonder why the headgasked went , both these problems are unheard of in normal use and properly maintained .

Of course each to their own but why are you replacing your 4 cylinder T5 coded engine with another already rescued or repaired?

This engine is renowned for split liners in hard use and also HG failure with cooling problems and it will all happen again.....?
