Default Intermittant starting issue and now shuts off while driving

Hi, 2010 Volvo V70 D5, would turn over but not start. Got towed and when got home it started. Changed fuel filter but at weekend it would not start again. the recovery guy gave the fuel tank a couple of solid hits with a side way mallet and it started. He said it may be a sticky fuel pump. Today same thing but then cut out when I was driving. Has anyone else experienced this as a few garages I have contacted are suggesting > £1'000's possibly.. Could this just be a new fuel pump in the tank and does anyone know if they are under the back seat in these? Please help. thanks

Im having same problem.
Ive had the injectors, fuel flow valve and the fuel pressure valve replaced. The had taken the high pressure pump off and sent it for testing but all came back with specs.
When running the the intank fuel pump there is flow however possibly not at a high enough pressure .When pressurising the tank with air the car starts. So today the fuel tank its being removed to change the pump.

Mine turned out to be a bad neutral connection on the fuel tank plug.
The plug had melted a bit. So soldered 2 main pump wires directly to the pins.
All is working fine now.
At first we didn't suspect the intank pump as there was a good diesel flow from the tank to the high pressure pump. But it turns out it also needs good pressure. It looked like the electrical connection breaking down as soon as the pressure would build.
