Power to weight ratios relate to physics not price tags and high price tags don't automatically mean high performance.
Just do proper research next time and you might end up with something you actually like.

It does seem to be time related as much as mileage related - 12 months. Mine came on the day after its first service and I've noticed quite a few similar.

Having read this VEA thread and as much as I can find of relevance as a prelude to buying an XC60, I can't help thinking that one of the 5 cylinder Ford based engines might be better than the VEA engine as a private purchase for the long haul since the EGR fault doesn't appear to have been resolved.
I have been told by a Volvo service manager that to meet Euro 6 emissions the D4 AWD engine had changes made to the operation of its EGR at low temperatures, so I'm even tempted to go for a 'new' 2015 MY 5 cylinder version. Is that too paranoid, and why hasn't there been more nostalgia for the 5 cylinder engine on this thread particularly the D4? |

Why nostalgia? The 5 pot is still in full production? Great engine though. Nothing I've heard sounds better. (Ford Based? It was designed by Volvo.)

Did it start as the Penta Marine or was the car version first?

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think the inline 5-cylinder layout was based on the Audi diesel that Volvo used in the 80s and 90s. Then Volvo did its own in-house all-aluminium 5-potter to replace the Audi lump, and the basics were shared between the car and boat division.
