The whole track rod and inner ball joint just screw into the end of the steering rack - pull back the gaiter and you will see them.
Having said that it looked a bit of a pig to get at the end of the rack with a spanner as the subframe is in the way. I replaced both sides on mine recently and bought the parts from PartsForVolvoOnline ( about £20 each ) and got my local garage to fit them for about £40 including setting the tracking - not really worth getting dirty for that price. As I remember there are two types of steering racks / trackrods on the 'classic' V70, the changeover time was about '98. You can apparantly decode the chassis plate to find out with you have is yours is around the changeover time - a certain digit will be either 4 or 5, although I can't recall which one it is! |
