Default Pincodes>

I really do disagree with you about the freedom that a fair few people seek to vary various aspects of their cars.

These pin codes will obstruct a fair number of owners right to use and alter their cars as they reasonbly would wish in all manner of areas that clearly hold no interest for you personally.

It is a given that current Volvos are, in general along with most current cars 'excellent, reliable products'. Your choice of the word, tamper, is pejoritive.

Btw, how do you know that you can not? The new UK pricelists are not yet loaded online. Dealer? They probably don't know anyway.....

If it's not possible, spec laminated windows and tint the windows through a different company (film on the inside). If done properly, it will look great.
I have the 2014MY price list that the dealer gave me. There is a footnote against the tint option "Not available in combination with laminated windows" so I thought I'd get them done later like you say. My daughter's VW T5 Transporter was done and it looked very good.

I see. I think the V70 had the same "issue" in the UK at one point. Perhaps some legislation or manufacturer process??

I had the factory tints on my XC60 and they were great. Easy to see out, not so easy to look in!

Was going to press the button and order a MY 2014 XC60 last week but then I saw the press release regarding the new VEA engines coming in the autumn.
As usual the dealers know bugger all.

They look really interesting but not sure if they're worth the wait, although a 8 speed auto might be worth a look.

Just wondering what you guys think.?

Interesting stuff but if the NK's press the button, we might not be here in the autumn! I can't wait till June never mind hanging on till September.

Depends how long you are prepared to wait. Realistically, your looking at best part of a year...

Timing is perfect for me. If the engines and gearbox offer the significant improvement they promise, then I might just change in about two years time when their capability will be known.

Don.
I have to somewhat agree in regards to tuning this new PIN altering the map setup is quite bad, although it will not stop reading or resetting as such so legally it is okay you just cannot alter it, without removing it.

In regards to wimorrisons points I find that slightly ironic considering your input into this thread (http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...=172832&page=1) in favour of remaps from what I can see.

Quote:
If you have ever driven production car that has had a proper remap done then you will realise that modern cars are tuned for reliability, not for performance or economy. This has actually always been the case.

I had my old v70 retuned and the difference was lights and day, 15% better on fuel consumption and an additional 32bhp (tested on rolling road). I never told the insurance company and sold the car with the remap removed.

Previously I had a box fitted, can't recall the make and that also provided better consumption and power.

I haven't bothered with the XC60 as it does me ok, must be getting older - I think I will put another log on the fire then get out my pipe and slippers
Quote:
not at all, if a remap was done to an XC60 then you would get more power, and probably better consumption.

the point is that these engines are not tuned individually to get the best performamce or economy, they are assembled to give reliability and this requires everything to be in the centre of the statistical bell curve, not at the edges where best economy or power will be founf for that specific engine and that specific car.
Quote:
The remap was a RICA economy map that was down by a firm near Slough, I was working that way at the time, thankfully no longer - Ricky Gervais' parody of Slough was accurate

The rolling road tested the output before and after the remap, hence I know that was correct when they did it and the consumption was worked out from fuel and miles over 6 months or so of mixed driving.

The box appeared to give more power and brim to brim showed that the consumption was better, but not as good as the proper remap, but then the remap cost around £500 and the box cost around £100 - assuming memory is correct as it was several years ago - and as I said they should be much better now than they were then.
Also in regards to reliability there does seem a fair few faults with the current '60 which is hard to shy a way from. Hopefully the new facelift addresses these.

In regards to tampering I do find that a bit strong, additionally I doubt remapping plays with safety critical systems such as airbags etc. in addition considering your previous views and statements on remaps providing better economy and performance.

End of the day yes it may affect tuners but overall it affects owners who wish not to have a Polestar remap or just as a whole from gaining that extra performance and economy which you yourself have supported in regards to remapping (however that has been done).

Drop dead day for the order spec is Monday.

So it's to be:

XC60 AWD SE Lux D5 Nav Geartronic
Colour - Twilight bronze metallic code 700
Trim - Leather interior code G10B Soft beige seats
Wheels - 18" Zephyrus wheels
Options:
Tempa spare wheel with jack
Load compensating rear suspension
Panoramic Tilt & Slide sunroof
Lamnated side windows with water repellent front side glass
Urbane wood trim
Winter pack upgrade for SE Lux
Detachable tow bar with 13-pin electrics
Volvo service offer 5 years for £500

I'll need to get a local firm to do the rear 3/4 window tints. The heated steering wheel was tempting but a pair of gloves are quite a bit cheaper!!

Nice spec. But I must say, a heated steering wheel is one of the best inventions ever!! Have it on my 5 and it's truly great!

Like it.......but have you also thought about ordering VOC. The ability to use your iPhone (or similar) to view/monitor/control so many features is such a great feature. Also remember if you car gets stolen you can monitor its location live! It was the only thing that I regretted not ordering on my below XC60 - to then find out it is not a dealer fit option as well........
