I personally think you'll do whatever you can finance wise & mind-wise to justify the XC60. You're on the volvo forum, right? Bet you're not on the Skoda or VW forum having this discussion - that's because you "desire" the Volvo. It's a "nice" thing to have. I have an XC90, but it's a "nice" piece of design. It's Apple-esque to a degree now. It doesn't matter what Audi or BMW do, you'll still look at the Volvo and desire it.

You may go and drive the Skoda, and your head will tell you it's more sensible, but it's not *quite* there in terms of that "Apple" feeling that Volvo is now approaching. Volvo looks a nice clean pure Swedish design - something to behold and nurture.

For some, Samsung can do as much as they like with their S8 etc etc, but many will still want that warmer feeling that comes with Apple.

Saab (RIP) and Volvo just have that Swedish calmness & softness that sets them apart from the mainstream. Skoda & VW are just grey consumer brands pitched at a different level.

Hey, it's all in the clever marketing! We all get sucked in.....

Correct. The rest of the post does not matter. I can guarantee you're going to come out the other side with a XC60 as I can read between the lines. You've decided in your heart. Go on, prove me wrong.......

See, i look at Volvo and see them as the android alternative to the Applesque german marques.

I think its a given that Volvo are aiming for the big boys in some regards so are a cut above offering from the VAG stable, both Kodiaq and Tiguan, despite the twinkly lights, have a sterile look and feel to them, i prefer the Jap offerings (Xtrail and CRV) to the VAG offering.

How about the F pace?

I think the F-Pace has been done to death on this forum. Any car that has trim like this is more Android than Apple....

Be an interesting poll that one. Volvo is trying to head in the Apple direction in terms of image, quality, brand, & softness - it's the Nordic brand image that Nokia also once heralded. I'm not sure which camp VAG lands in - it's technologically advanced & sure footed, but just an ounce of character lost. I think it's about the nurturing feeling. Volvo's have always presented themselves as safe - nurturing you as a womb does. VAG are more stern. This is how it will be - this is how you should act - this is what you want to be.

I'm not a marketing person, but sure they have endless debates over this

The Japanese offerings always seem to lack 'performance' engines.

The last five comments are all absolutely correct.
I have thought about the Jag F pace,, I like the look of it, but must admit to being put of it by previous thread on this forum regarding the noise from wherever, also I'm not looking really looking for the sporty ride, I'm looking for comfort calm, also I would want the 3ltr, not an option with the Volvo, l really can't see myself spending over 50k on a car.
I think soupytwister is absolutely correct in his views, I don't like to think of myself as a badge snob, after all before the XC60 I had about 25 years of Peugeot's and to be honest I've seriously thought about the new 3008 but it doesn't offer AWD.
The comment about me not having been on VW or Skoda forums or any others is again absolutely right, I will rectify that.
It took me quite a while to fall in love with my XC60 but I have, it's not perfect, I'm sure there are better car's out there, but I bet there's not a perfect one.
I'm relying on you guys to help me make the right decision.

I'm with you on this one. I have looked into many other cars and the closest came the F Pace but having read about all the problems that these cars have and the customer service record, I have put a deposit on a new XC60. I am hoping to test drive one soon and this will be the confirmation or not, of whether to go for it. The main concern is the cost, so economic factors may affect the ultimate decision but my first choice is the XC60.

The Discovery Sport now has the high performance diesel. Just thought I'd throw in a curve ball.

I've heard so many bad reports about Land Rover over the years, that I have barely given them a second thought, I do think the discolooks smart though.
