Default 2015 S60 D3 Engine light - EGR low flow rate

Hi all,

Am getting yellow Engine check light - which AA have indicated relates to EGR low flow rate. They activated the valve using their software and could hear it working and reset the light but it has come back on after about 100 motorway miles. Car has done 20k miles from new and is the D3 CAT6 148bhp model

A few questions

1) have people had success with EGR Spray cleaners, like Wynns available at Halfords?
2) if the spray cleaner works will the light reset itself after x miles or does it need to be turned off by software like the AA did?
3) does anyone have a link to how you remove the egr to do a proper clean for this engine?

Thanks in advance

John

I suggest the EGR cooler is becoming blocked. It's a major problem on these VEA engines!

Volvo replaced mine for free last week... they have a goodwill programme that covers these known problems.

Don't be put off by the title, this is a VEA issue not just a D4 problem... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=221555

My experience last week and getting Volvo goodwill is described at post #2050 in that thread.

Thanks Zebster,

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of where it is located on the Euro 6 engines?

Cheers

To complete this thread and help anyone reafing it in future I purchased a diagnostics box to read the codes and reset them, as that's all the AA did, so I could see if they or other codes continued to be generated and at what frequency. I started putting in Shell Optimax Diesel in and sprayed Wynns EGR cleaner in the intake which didn't seem to work as the error returned shortly after. Having reset it again I used a number of different in fuel additives including Redex, Wynns, STP and Forte along with continuing with Shell Optimax. The error reoccurred a couple of times during this but I'm delighted to say it appears to have corrected the issue, with the light not coming back on during the last 2k miles of mixed driving.

Obviously with such a cocktail I can't advise which product or combination of products were responsible, but if you are out of warranty and short of time or skills, it may be worth trying as (code reader aside) it has cost less than the price of a tank of fuel to resolve.

I plan to put a bottle of one of these in every 6 months or so as a premeventative measure if it continues to be trouble free.
