Yes Auto, the slight increase in fuel consumption over manual (and consequent increase in CO2) is enough to increase it's tax band. It can all change of course but currently our 9-5 is taxed on engine size not emissions due to age (registered before 31 March 2006) and is £325 same car registered a year later is currently £555.

Ah, I had heard about the autos being very expensive tax wise and do you mean 1st of March 2001? That was when it switched from engine size to CO2.

My car a MY2006 C70 T5 SE Lux Geartronic is the same tax as the manual, this is because it was registered before 23rd March 2006. Automatics the same as mine registered on or after this date for whatever reason cost over £555.00 to tax, mine is £325.00

The 9-5 2L Petrol is exactly the same (not sure about the 2.3L)

Sorry my misinterpretation of the rules from March 2001 to March 2006 tax is based on CO2 but is caped at a lower tax level currently £325.

However I am looking at a C70 this evening.
