A 5 year plan is definitely available as I have just purchased one. I had real difficulty in getting my dealer to sort it out. In the end I contacted Volvo direct and they spoke to the dealer. The warranty I had was 5 years/ 100000 miles which was I think around £890. I thought for an extra 2 years this was good value for money as it includes courtesy cars like for like and roadside assistance. The issue was the dealer kept saying you had to buy at the end of the current warranty which is not correct you can purchase it at any time you want as long as the car is currently under warranty.

It is really a 2 year plan as the first 3 years are free anyway but I remember being offered warranty extention for my previous MK1 XC90 cars at around the £400+ for year 4 so prices have remained about the same.

You're actually looking at £700 a year for extended warranty after the first 3 years.
I took out the extended warranty on my Mk1 XC90. Paid off one year when I had a steering sensor problem - dealer repair would have cost £800 without the warranty. |

Bought from my dealer last winter (car was just 18m old then) official extension to 5 years (not sure about miles but Volvo paperwork came through a month or so after). It cost 850 - same as what others on the forum indicated at the time. The repair costs are astronomical so if you plan to keep the car past 3 years it makes sense as enough of things go wrong to make it worthwhile.
