XC90s are getting popular
When I bought my XC90 in June 2016 there was not another one any where near me, yesterday I was in a local shopping centre carpark and there were 3 parked there, a white T8, a silver R design and my savile grey Inscription, a full house on display, they are getting popular.
There are also at least 2 others within half a mile of my house and another on the same school run, also a S90 in same road. Wont be long before the XC90 taxi's start turning up. |

I see lots more now too as I think Volvo have done well with their latest designs. A more low-key (except the Blue R-Design on 22's of course😉 ) but stylish alternative to the usual German brands and JLR. I think most configurations looks great, which can't be said of a lot of high-end cars.
Having jumped out my 5 series and straight into the XC90, I felt it was built every bit as well too, although I accept they earlier models seemed to be in beta-testing to some extent. I think the once pioneering, mainly button-free interfaces will be/are being overtaken (see the Velar), but being mostly software they will be somewhat future proof through updates. If they work that is. Certainly would be nice to get one as a taxi but can't see anyone round my way trading in their Octavia/Knackered Vectra just yet! |

Interesting thoughts so far. I have been taking a lot more notice of XC90’s over last 6 weeks while i deliberated whether to keep my beloved Touareg (at end of its 4 year lease) or go back to Volvo XC90 having had a Mk 1 before the Touareg and although a bit dated by the time I had it it was reliable, comfortable and Volvo ownership gave me a kind of happy but sensible feeling.
I saw the (mainly software) issues with the early SPA xc90s and hoped by spring 18 they would have sorted them and I feel confident they have now with an October software update seeming to make people happier then they had been and Volvo do seem to be true to their word and are not turning their back on issues with earlier cars but trying to sort them with updates direct to the car. 4 years ago my Touareg was hi-tech compared to me XC90 but 4 years seems a long time in ‘car’ years and tech-wise the XC90 is way ahead of the current Touareg but a new model of that is just around the corner. One wonders what software issues new Touareg owners may face and that concern, coupled with fact i did not like the spy shots of the new VW have swayed me back in Volvo direction. Current fashion seems to favour a ‘squashed’ back look ala Velar and new Touareg looks similar - i prefer the more traditional square and a bit ‘slab-sided’ look which is a reason i turned to the 90 as opposed to the XC60 which will be a great car too. There is only 1 very small piece of the XC90 which imho lets it down and that is the door handle/window switch moulding which is the only part which to me looks a tad old fashioned and lower quality by my wife and daughter dont see it at all. Ans also by now and with Volvos safety ethos why is there no secure anchorage in the boot somewhere for the removed tonneau cover? So it is the hope of Volvo keeping the tech in it up to date (tech i need/can understand anyway) which made my mind up in the end to go XC90 plus a dealer i have used previously and who understand me but am reassured that coming from a BMW does not feel a downward step in terms of quality. Roll on March and delivery. |

I’ve seen three XC90s today in York.
Two bursting blue RDesign’s, I managed to park the V90 opposite one and a silver Inscription.

I am still tempted to wave to other new XC90 owners, thinking that they might be on the forum but usually feel silly and bottle out. I do notice that well over 50% of XC90 drivers I see are female, and I am not sure we have any ladies here on the XC90 forum (sorry if that terminology sounds patronising - it isn't meant to).

I just cannot imagine my wife ever wanting to set foot on this forum and to be discussing topics from EGR valves to GAP policies amongst others!
