Red face Blower/Fan Problem

Hi,
I have recently bought a Volvo S60T S, 2.4T, 2001, Manual 5 speed (80k) and am generally very pleased with it indeed.

A small point which I would appreciate some advice in is this: The blower/fan in the car seems only to have two working positions; off and low (ie setting one of 10 say). Its no major deal as it still heats and cools the car but not with any ferocity.

Any ideas?

ALSO:

I have been reading in the forum and I have noticed when idling (out if gear) the revs do slip low and the engine brings them up to just under one thousand (or what ever it is). This happens every 10/15 seconds. It doesn't rev at any great speed and is hardly noticeable but I wondered if this was a common problem.

Thanks in advanced,

Default blower resistor

sounds very much like the blower resistor has failed, seemingly a common fault.

Hi 4 forty,
Thanks for your reply. I thought it may be a variable resistor or similar. Any ideas if it is an easy fix ie. could I replace it myself?

Thanks,
Carl

You could try resetting the ECM occasionally restarts the controls.
ignition key in position 2
lock and unlock using drivers controls
windows up and down a couple of time
then heater control knob from off to full continuous sweep a couple of times

Hi Callewisuk . I bought my v70 with a the heater fan not working and decide to strip out the fan and check it out . Nothing seemed amiss . I powered up the fan motor direct from a battery to check it was ok and refitted it . It run perfectly for over a year. Recently I started the car and noticed the fan wasn't working so went to a breakers and bought a fan motor with the control unit attached cost £30 .That sorted it and runs perfectly. Should take about 40 -50 min to fit as you will have to remove the glove box. My sons car , an S60 , had the reverse problem his fan stuck on high power. He bought a new control unit from Volvo cost £98 . so take your choice.
Regards

Default V50 Heater stuck on Hot whatever setting selected?

Hi there, I new to the club.

I have a Volvo V50 on a 2006 55 Plate. My heater fan blew a couple of weeks back and since having it replaced my heat control is always on hot whatever setting it is on? Does anyone have any ideas? I have spent £700 on getting the blower replaced as the dash had to come out to get to it.

Any ideas would be much appreciated as I am beginning to pull my hair out now.

Thanks

Hi there,

Hope you don't mind me messaging you, but would you have any ideas about the problem I added earlier?
