Engine will not turn over
I have a 2005 s60 D5 185kw. The car has developed a really strange fault. When I try to start it , nothing happens apart from message "Immobiliser - see manual" and "Anti-Skid Service Required". I try starting it between 6 and 10 times, then suddenly it starts, even though I have not turned the key right round to engage the starter, it is the position before that. The car runs fine once started , but never starts again without going through this routine. The other thing I can hear once the car is started is a clicking coming from the boot. I located the source of the clicking to a fuse board under the left rear arch. Cant see what is clicking assume it is a relay ? ..Sometimes there is no clicking at all.
Has anybody any idea what I can check or try to locate the fault ? . |

Ideas to check
Hello, I'd first look at the ignition switch. The part where you said, "even though I have not turned the key right round to engage the starter, it is the position before that." AND THE CAR STARTS? That's a first!
The immobilizer antenna ring is said to be an easy and cheap fix. Get some codes read by a Volvo equipped mechanic. Deal with the Anti-Skid Service later. Kira |

Resolved
Hi thought I would post the solution to this problem in case it is of help to others. The root of the problem turned out to be a battery struggling to hold a charge. Although it manifested itself in an unusual manner by throwing up immobilser errors. Hope this is of help.

We tend to forget that a lot of things have to be in place before one of these machines will play ball. If it doesn't like the look of the voltages being offered to any one of a number of things on the huffy puffy committee it will sit down and sulk.
