The 2005 were exposed to the CEM water ingress issue. There is also the axle end bolt issue.

Default Brake assist service light

Hi there,

had the "Brake Assist Service" light coming on, my XC70 has done almost 160K, just had its service and MOT so was a bit worried. It suddenly came on, causing the cruise control to be deactivated so went to see my Volvo Specialists in Portslade and after having read all codes, they informed me it is my brake pedal sensor, fixing this will cost 223 pounds but needs to be done, I guess :-)

Anyone else recently had some experience with this ?

Don't know if this is the part needed and how easy it is to replace it but will save you a bit of money compared with what the garage quoted you.
Maybe if you search with the part number in this add you come across cheaper ones
