Default Cooling Fan 1/2 Speed Not Working

I was sitting in stop and go traffic yesterday and saw my coolant hit 232 F / 111 C and the needle was just slightly right of center on the cluster. I stopped revving to go 20 feet and it settled down but made me worry about my fans.

I tried to test the fans in Vida/Dice and when I activated the 1/1 speed it went on for 5 seconds and stopped. When I activated the 1/2 speed it did not spin at all.

Can anyone with dice confirm the behavior is to only start and spin for a few seconds when activated. I expected it to keep running until I stopped the activation.

I have ordered a few relays to replace those in the fuse box but otherwise I'm hunting the issue still, just throwing parts at it now.

I also see in this diagram a resistor unit? Is that actually replaceable? I believe mine looks very rusty and it looks like Ii'd need to splice it in on that wire?

Hey bud. The resistor is what you need. I had exactly the same symptoms and that fixed me right up. I will look for the thread and post.

FOLLOWUP question. The bulletin pic at the end of the link you shared has the final position as the diagonal/vertical. Mine is currently horizontal. Is it intended from that bulletin that I end up having mine moved to that position or to keep it in the horizontal position.

It seems I should be able to nip the wire anywhere and just match the lengths of the new one to the original one removed? Accounting for the splice length.

I don't think it matters - it says in the removal it may be in either position, I'd go with what suits your wiring.

Agreed. Just give yourself a bit extra. It is a tough spot to work in.

6 months ago my resistor had gone bad like yours, here in my country i could not find a new replacement resistor, so i go to the breakers. They wanted 40£ for the used part.

It was too pricey for an used part. So i buyed a fiat punto tjet fan resistor for 4£. and wired it to the fan as the original resistor. After six months it is still running fine.
