My car has never done it, my old car also never did it (1.3l Ford Fiesta). Just thought I'd throw my experiences in. Makes me think if the fan even works..

The cooling fan on my T5 runs quite often after parking; I do the same run everyday and even parking the car a slightly different way (reversing up a steep road) can send the fan running. It all depends on the previous journey and how much 'free' cooling the radiator has had.

A nice touch with the Volvo is that the fan remains energised after you remove the ignition key unlike some cars that just kill all power and just sit there too hot.

I'm not sure how effective it really is as the coolant isn't being circulated when the engine isn't running so it's only cooling what's sitting in the radiator
