Default General advice needed - newbie.

Hello forum,

I have an 2006 S40 2.0D Sport. Got a problem and as a new driver I have no idea how to resolve...

One of my 18inch Medusas is cracked [ either a pothole or the AA mobile tyre fitters].
The MOT and Insurance ran out whilst I was looking for another rim in a acceptable condition.

What should I do? Can't find one Medusa anywhere near me, don't have other cars, won't pass mot on a spacesaver spare and without mot I can't get insurance. Panicking.

Listed the car for sale at 1500 as is, but no luck. Help?

Regards

Ebay for either a single rim, or a cheap set of steels that will fit temporarily.
Pre book for MOT and you are (as far as I'm aware) permitted to drive directly to and from testing station.

With no MOT and without a full set of wheels, you'd be very lucky to sell at that price.

Wheels from a Ford Focus will fit as well. As long as you can get 2 wheels you’re good. They don’t need to match all round, just across the axles, in case you aren’t aware

There are few breakers such as Fellside in Ilkeston, Derby. Whilst not on your doorstep breakers can easily sort delivery etc. As mentioned, you can get insurance without MOT, just not road tax.

In your case if one specific rim is not available, easiest option as suggested is to get another set from ebay or a breaker that will fit your car and get you mobile. You can then sell this set on or keep it as a spare set for winter etc.

If you're well desperate, a cheap wheel/tyre package may be an option from a local boy racer shop.

Selling a car due to 1 wheel is OTT in my opinion and if you're that desperate, you'd probably be better off trading it in at a second hand car lot first thing in the morning.

Can't you get the wheel repaired? I had a crack and slight buckle on the inner edge of one of my Medusas a couple of weeks ago. £63 later it's all fixed. Doesn't take them long to fix it either.

If you can get to Northampton these guys are very good and quick-
http://www.precision-welding.co.uk/
they repair alloy wheels but they don't do the refinishing, try phoning them to see what they can do, some jobs you can drop off the rim in the morning and pick it up later that day, (you do have to get the tyre taken off before you take it to them).

Thank you all for replies. Will keep searching for a rim and get insurance in the meantime.

I consider selling, because afraid of the cost of any repair that may be found during MOT :/.
