I also have a Merc SL 1997 which I just fit into. The daily driver of an XC60 is supremely comfortable.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated before I start long trips to view cars.
When I was looking for different seats to install the MX5 seats would fit but the RX8 seats wouldn’t. So if you can fit in a MX5 there is a chance of fitting in a P1800. Even for us shorter folk a P1800 takes a bit of folding to get in and out of.

Hi Simon,
I am almost 6.3" and have plenty of head room, the seats can be adjusted via the rails, so not your usual adjustment so the seat sits low. This question been asked several times on the many Facebook forums and my statement regularly backed up, this by folk as same height as you which takes all the speculation out of it. A work colleague of mine is just shy of 6.5" and again fits nicely no issues. What is worth a note is the steering wheels in earlier modes are large so your legs are kinda either side of steering wheel, not a problem but something to bare in mind.
Am confident you will fit no sweat 👍

True, Amazons, better, etc. However, the 1800's lines, styling, are unique, nothing like it elsewhere. I'd say as the others, go see, adjust seat down. There are plenty of tall scandi folks, it must be poss. Maybe one near you, ask owner if can sit in it. Research, be brave!

I think it may be possible to cut the supports from the base to runners steel and reweld to get a bit more space.
I am 6ft 4in and am fine as is.
I have a friend who is 6ft 7in and he had a P1800 30 years ago, and does not remember having a problem.
I do think you need to wait until you have sat in and tried the car. Be patient if you can!

Simon;

Interesting!...apparently there are a lot of tall 1800 owners out around here! I'm a mere 6ft shorty by comparison, and I have plenty of room (I haven't even needed to adjust the seats on the rails to their lowest position), so I also expect you should fit...but as others also suggest, little beats a practical test if possible.

Cheers

Hi all, just getting used to the forum- what great support and input, thank you. I’ve only just turned to page 2 realising there was a second page!! Before I turned the page I thought a P1800 was a no go. Having read page 2 I’m encouraged by all those tall drivers out there. There is hope. I just need to be patient, wait for lockdown being over and make the journey to try the car. I’ve seen one in Norwich which looks good, shame it’s 4 hours drive away. Being cheeky if Anyone is close to Ross on Wye and would let me sit in their P1800 I’d be eternally grateful.
Thanks all for your input and encouraging words.

Would have thought there'd be a few in Bristol, being full of suitably alternative folks.
