Ive had a bad day
I ve had a bad day, got in my 1989 740 estate fuel injection ,started first time as normal ,thought 'I must get some petrol' its been runing on fumes for two days.... tthenn it cut out ... put in a canfull and of to the VENINATHICO as they call it here, but no luck started but cut out and now will not start at all so my question is is there a fuel filter some where ?? I cant see it under the bonnet .is it under the back seat or in the tank ?? if any one out there in VOLVO LAND can offer help or advice or any otherusefull tips better than a Hanes manual then I be dead chuffed Jeff

Hi Jeff
Sounds as though you're having a nightmare!! I really don't know about your model as mine is an 850. I'm wondering whether they're in a similar place as I'm sure my fuel pump is under the back seat, not far from the tank. Also, I'm wondering whether runnning the tank so low has dredged all the rubbish that sits in the bottom of the tank....or is that why you wanted to find the fuel pump? Good luck!

Hey Jeff,
The fuel filter in my 740 sits on the firewall on the passenger side... You'll find your car should have 2 fuel pumps, a lift pump in the tank and another under the car around the passenger seat. There should be a gauze type filter on the pick up in the tank, if the tank was dirty this may be clogged ! other wise so might be the mail fuel filter. I dont have any engine bay shots that show it, but i can take some if you get stuck. Cam |

Bad day getting better
Thanks for both replies.
We've found the fuel pump and whacked it a couple of times - which usually helps. Now taking it off to try and clean the filter. Any more adviceanyone has, more than welcome. To add to the fun its sleeting this morning..... Progress report follows later. Cheers Jeff |
