  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default flared nut spanners

has anyone got any advice about these type of spanners ? i need a 11 and a 14 mm and would like to hear any stories about good or bad makes of these particular spanners

They're no different to buyong any other spanner in terms of you get what you pay for.
You'll probably find that Halfords will be a suitable compromise between quality and value.

ive seen the halfords ones look like a normal open ended spanner but with a bit more wraparound for the nut.
the b&q set look like the teng tools set in as much they have what looks like twice the biting positions - if that makes sense

Hi, yes I understand what you mean.
I have a couple of bits from the B&Q Torq range and they're very good and I have lots of Halfords Advanced stuff.
You won't go wrong with either really.

Most of the smaller sizes will be six point. Once you get to 17mm and above they are normally 12 point (or would be if there wasn't a section cut out). I currently use some Britool Expert flare nut spanners. They are not the Stanley made Britool ones though. They are Marque of Skill branded, which is apparently the older, better quality Britool stuff. Halfords Advanced Professional are also very good quality.

Halfords Advanced Professional spanners really are the dogs doodars and a good price.
