Engine is fine generally. Chain driven cams so no cambelts to worry about.

Have a look round the XC90 section of the forum for opinions. It's quite a complex vehicle and can be expensive to repair.

On the plus side there's a good Volvo independent garage in Nottingham!

I have no experience of LPG on a Volvo - but I can recommend it in relation to my conversion of a 2.4 petrol PT Cruiser (not by me personally! - a specialist job at a reasonable price).
It was a great success - super-cheap to run and a real environmental feel-good factor - not totally green but much less polluting than petrol or diesel.
Don't believe the cr*p you may read about exploding tanks - they don't because, being a pressure vessel, they're much stronger than any conventional fuel tank.
The only slight downside for me was more frequent fill-ups but an XC90 has room for a really big tank without compromising too much load-space.
Well worth taking seriously IMHO...

Hi, 'Phil000',

If it is not an indelicate question, why is specific fuel consumption so important? With a low mileage such as you indicate, the additional cost is marginal. I run a petrol V70 that returns around 30 MPG under mixed driving. The car cost me well under £1000 two years and 8000 miles ago. To date, I have spent £1450 on petrol and have around 8 gallons left in the tank.

The low depreciation makes these very economical cars to run and the savings pay for an awful lot of fuel. Factor in the costs of manufacture and ultimate disposal being amortised over 20 plus years. and you will have a very 'green' car in my opinion!

Regards, John.

PS I could if you wish also put you in touch with a very good garage - although not a Volvo indie - just down the road in Melton who look after our cars and are very reasonable.

Totally fair question!

I think I'm hung up on MPG as my current 2.5L Xtrail does 20MPG and I was hoping to improve on this when 'upgrading' to a new car.

Maybe I need to focus more on the car itself!
